Scottie Scheffler Obliterates Field at CJ Cup Byron Nelson
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler delivered a masterclass at the 2025 CJ Cup Byron Nelson, storming to his first PGA Tour win of the season at TPC Craig Ranch in his hometown of Dallas, Texas. Scheffler’s wire-to-wire victory was nothing short of historic, finishing at 31-under 253—tying the PGA Tour’s 72-hole scoring record set by Justin Thomas (2017 Sony Open) and Ludvig Åberg (2023 RSM Classic).
His rounds of 61, 63, 66, and a final-round 63 showcased relentless precision, particularly with his approach game, where he gained over nine strokes on the field. Scheffler held an eight-shot lead entering Sunday, the largest 54-hole margin on Tour since Brooks Koepka’s 2019 PGA Championship. Despite a bogey on the 17th, he nearly claimed the outright scoring record, missing a birdie on the par-5 18th after finding a greenside bunker.
A birdie on the 72nd hole would have accomplished 2 stunning feats: setting a new PGA tour record for lowest score to par in an event, as well as birdie or better on all par 5s for the entire week. Scheffler feasted on the par 5s, scoring -14 on those holes alone on the week. Erik van Rooyen finished a distant second at 23-under, while Jordan Spieth’s final-round 62 earned him a 4th place finish. Scheffler’s 14th career win netted him $1.71 million and 500 FedEx Cup points.
With the PGA Championship two weeks away, Scheffler’s form is a warning to the field that he may be returning to peak form.

Noteworthy Stories ✍🏻

Bryson DeChambeau Powers to LIV Golf Korea Victory
Bryson DeChambeau roared back to the winner’s circle at LIV Golf Korea, clinching his first LIV title since 2023 with a final-round 66 at Jack Nicklaus Golf Club in Incheon.
The two-time major champion fended off a charging Charles Howell III, birdieing his final two holes to finish at 6-under, two shots clear.
DeChambeau’s power was on full display, with drives routinely eclipsing 390 yards, but his clutch putting sealed the deal. The win, his third on the LIV circuit, comes at a perfect time with the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow approaching. DeChambeau, who finished runner-up at last year’s PGA and won the 2024 U.S. Open, has four top-six finishes in his last five majors.
His confidence is palpable, stating, “My goal is to win every tournament I show up to.”
As LIV Golf struggles for mainstream traction, DeChambeau’s star power keeps it at least somewhat relevant, but can he challenge Scheffler and Rory McIlroy for the Wanamaker Trophy?

Star Golfers Peak as PGA Championship Looms
The PGA Championship at Quail Hollow is two weeks away, and the game’s biggest names are firing on all cylinders.
Scottie Scheffler’s record-tying performance at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson signals he’s ready to reclaim major glory and win a major other than the Masters after a winless 2025 start.
Bryson DeChambeau’s LIV win and recent major consistency make him a formidable threat.
Rory McIlroy, fresh off his 2025 Masters triumph to complete the career Grand Slam, is a favorite at Quail Hollow, where he’s won four times. His recent form, including three PGA Tour wins this year, has him eyeing the world No. 1 spot.
Elsewhere, Justin Thomas, who texted during the CJ Cup broadcast that “31-under is just fine,” is regaining his 2017 form, while Xander Schauffele, despite early-season injuries, remains a major contender.
The Truist Championship, a Signature Event next week, will be a final tune-up for many, but the narrative is clear: Scheffler, DeChambeau, and McIlroy are setting the stage for a blockbuster PGA Championship.
Who’s your pick to lift the Wanamaker?
