Tommy Fleetwood’s Triumph: A Long-Awaited PGA Tour Victory
The 34-year-old Englishman finally broke through for his first PGA Tour win at the 2025 Tour Championship, capturing the FedEx Cup and its massive $10 million prize in Atlanta. In his 164th PGA Tour start, Fleetwood shed the “best player never to win” label with a commanding performance, posting a final-round 2-under 68 to finish at 18-under 262, three shots clear of Patrick Cantlay and Russell Henley.
Fleetwood’s journey to this victory was paved with heartache. With six runner-up finishes and 30 top-five placements on the PGA Tour—more than any player without a win in the last 40 years—he’d endured his share of close calls. Just this summer, he squandered leads at the Travelers Championship and the FedEx St. Jude Championship. But at East Lake, he slayed those demons, holding firm despite a bogey on the 10th that cut his lead to one. Back-to-back birdies on the 12th and 13th, with pinpoint wedge shots to six feet, sealed his triumph. “It’s easy to say you’re resilient, but it’s hard when you have to be,” Fleetwood said, his smile radiating relief and joy.
What makes this win even sweeter is Fleetwood’s character. Universally beloved, he’s a genuine, down-to-earth guy who’s never lost his positivity despite years of near misses. The Atlanta crowd, chanting “Tommy! Tommy! Tommy!” as he walked up the 18th, proved his global appeal transcends borders. Even fellow pros like Justin Rose and Shane Lowry stuck around to celebrate, with Rose capturing the moment on his phone. If anyone deserved this, it’s Tommy.
The Tour Championship returned to a traditional 72-hole stroke play format, ditching the staggered-start system used in recent years. Interestingly, had the old format been in place, Scottie Scheffler would have edged Fleetwood by one shot for the FedEx Cup. The new format crowned a deserving champion, but its one-and-done nature leaves the future unclear—PGA Tour officials have yet to announce what’s next for 2026.
Stay tuned, Duffers, for updates on that front.

Noteworthy Stories ✍🏻

Ryder Cup Buzz: Will Keegan Bradley Pick Himself?
With the PGA Tour season wrapped, all eyes turn to the Ryder Cup, set to tee off on September 26, 2025, at Bethpage Black in New York. U.S. captain Keegan Bradley, who finished T7 at the Tour Championship, faces a big decision: Will he use one of his six captain’s picks on himself?
Bradley, who posted a sensational 63-64 in the middle rounds at East Lake, admitted he’s “dead tired” but hinted he’s leaning toward playing. “The only thing I care about is on Sunday of the Ryder Cup, that we win,” he said.
His picks will be announced this Wednesday, August 27, 2025.
Rumors suggest Bradley’s self-selection could mean leaving out either Sam Burns or Cameron Young, both of whom performed well at East Lake (T7 and T4, respectively). Whispers also hint at a surprise pick or two, so expect some drama when the team is finalized.
The golf world is abuzz, and we’ll be watching closely.

LIV Golf Team Championship: Legion XIII Prevails
Over on the LIV Golf circuit, the 2025 Team Championship took place last week at The Cardinal at Saint John’s in Plymouth, Michigan. Jon Rahm’s Legion XIII emerged victorious, outlasting Bryson DeChambeau’s Crushers GC in a thrilling two-hole playoff.
Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton delivered clutch birdies on the second playoff hole to secure the $14 million team prize, while DeChambeau’s bogey-free 8-under 62 wasn’t enough after a wayward approach in the playoff. Stinger GC rounded out the podium at 12-under.
The event, which drew over 40,000 fans, showcased LIV’s team format in high-energy fashion, keeping the circuit’s momentum strong as it heads into the offseason.

LPGA Spotlight: Brooke Henderson Shines
On the LPGA Tour, Brooke Henderson claimed victory at the CPKC Women’s Open at Mississauga Golf and Country Club in Ontario, Canada, concluding on August 24, 2025. The Canadian star posted a final-round score to finish at 15-under, holding off Minjee Lee by one stroke.
Henderson’s win, her second of the 2025 season, solidifies her as a top contender heading into the LPGA’s season-ending CME Group Tour Championship. Her clutch performance on home soil was a fitting cap to a strong week for golf across the board.
